Wednesday  June 10th 2015 

The NAACP Providence Youth Council kicked off it's #NoMore capiagn. This campian is an effort to combat the negative images and videos that some of the youth in our communities are osting online and to show them the power of Postivie Social Media use. 

Sunday December 6th 2015 

#LunchBag community serivce & Silent March

We made sandwiches and put together lunch bags to feed about 60 people at Kennedy Plaza and Crossroads Shelter. We also passed socks and gloves to tose who needed them. After our community serivce we held a Silent March to the Martin Lurther King Jr. Bridge where we had a prayer lead by Ms Pilar Mccloud, and words from encourgement from Jim Vincent and Noel Frias. 

Saturday December 5th 2015 

Attended the 'Race in the Media' Community Forum  hosted byThe Department of Africana Studies at Brown University. There was a great discusion moderated by NBC 10 Anchor & Reporter Barbara Morse Silva.The Panelists were :ESPN SportsCenter Anchor Michael EavesESPN Anchor & Columnist Jemele HillCBS Boston WBZ Assistant News Director Johnny GreenNew England Sports Network Operations Director Neal ScarbroughProvidence College Director of Black Studies Julia Jordan-Zachery & NAACP Providence Branch President Jim Vincent.

Wednesday December 2nd 2015 

Noel Frias YC President was on the Dan York Show discussing the Black Major  Movement & other social justice issues pertaining to the youth. Check it out here.

Tuesday November 24th 2015 

30 families were fed in the Feed A Family For The Holidays can food drive for

Thanksgiving. Food bags went to families at Greene Middle School The Met

(Public St), Youth Build Providence &  The South Side Rec.

Families of ASC Youth also benefited from food bags.

Thursday November 12th 2015 

Participated in Congrsseman David Cicilline's First Youth Town Hall in Providence. 

Friday November 6th 2015 

NAACP Providence Youth Council Chairwoman, Ms. Plar Mccloud honored by the NAACP Providence with the Rosa Parks Award. 

 

Thursday Septemeber 10th to Monday September 14th 2015 

The NAACP Providence Youth Council participated in the NAACP Journey for Justice. We were the only youth group to march for 5 consecutive days and accumulated over 127 miles.  When the students returned to RI the group met with Congressman Cicilline in his office for a discussion that covered The Journey for Justice, presidential debates, voting rights and education. Below are pictures, video and reflections from some of the students who articipated.  

 

Saturday August 15th 2015 

Youth council did community service at the United Way Back to School Celebration as well as the Kings Cathedral Feed the Children event in Providence. 

Saturday July 25th 2015 

Participated in No More Murder Peace Rally in Providence. Marchers walked from Bells Funeral Home to Burnside Park where they held a rally. Several community leaders spoke including Ms PIlar Mccloud. 

 

 

Saturday July 11th to Wednesday July 15th 2015 

NAACP Convention in Philadelphia.  

Friday June 26th 2015 

Ms. Pilar Mccloud gave the keynote speech at Blackstone Valley Prep Middle School graduation ceremony . 

 

December 10th to December 12th 2015 : 

Students from the Youth Council did a weekend of community service in Washingtn DC. We mnaged to feed 30 people in the park . We met Bernie Sanders who happened to be walking down the street as well as spoke with Senator Whitehouse' Assistant on Judiciary Legislation David Caruolo. We toured the Holocaust Museum an met 2 survivors. A DC tour of the monuments was done as well as great conversation with the youth and adults alike. By far one of the best trips.

Wednesday December 30th 2015 

Pilar Mccloud was recognized by GoLocalProv as one of the “15 Who Made a Difference in 2015”.  

 

NAACP Providence Branch was also recognized as Rhode Isalnd's Non-Profit of the Year.
